Marine Removed for “Proselytizing’
A Marine was removed from duty for handing out in Iraq coins which contained Bible verses. The story can be found here.
”At least one of the coins is stamped with the words “Where will you spend eternity?” according to a report published Thursday by McClatchy Newspapers.
The other side of the coin reportedly contains a verse from John 3:16 that reads, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.””
Now – he was clearly propagating a very “dangerous message:” God loves the world…!
I remember a few years ago when a Somali taxi driver tried to convert me to Islam. I had no problem with his attempt. Canada (I was in Toronto at that time) was a free country and he should have the right to convert and argue with anybody -as long as he did it through acceptable means (in this case through argumentation). Iraq is supposed to be free (?) – but it seems to me that the country is still many years away from this kind of freedom. But then again – the rules for the Marines do seem to me to be repressive:
“Regulations prohibit members of the coalition force from proselytizing any religion, faith or practices, said Col. Bill Buckner, a coalition spokesman.”
And who knows – maybe the Anglican Church (see the previous post) may soon have a similar attitude toward “proselytizing.” God forbid!
I wonder if this student would have got suspended if he handed out The God Delusion (in Arabic) by Dawkins.
Shouldn’t that be considered proselytizing too ? 🙂
In all fairness – I think he would have been removed for that too. FREEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDOOOOOOM!!!!! 🙂 😦
